The story really starts at the Furniture Cave on Kings Road, where our founder’s family sold a collection of English antiques in the 1970s & 1980s. Surrounded by his parents’ fine pieces of traditional furniture and collectables, our founder, Christo, developed a fine eye for craftsmanship. Inspired by the beauty of the past, Christo decided to search for old things in need of new love.
The inspiration for Wilstone began in 1990, when Christo travelled around North and SouthIndia for a year on an old Enfield motorbike. Captivated by the subcontinent’s deep history and diverse culture, Christo returned throughout the 1990s, building a network of skilled crafts people and antique dealers.
Our name, Wilstone, was derived from a small hamlet nestled deep in the Shropshire hills. Built from local stone, Wilstone House dates back to the late 17th century and is a beautiful example of traditional English architecture. Our company’s roots started here, inspiring all the antique furniture we hand-source and the garden pieces we design.
The first shipment of antiques arrived in England in 1995 and was sold in a local antique shop in the historic market town of Church Stretton. Building on the success of the local stand, Wilstone made it to Chelsea in 2004 thanks to a talented group of friends and family. Since then, we have returned every year, winning 5-star awards and numerous Products of theYear.
Building on our network of incredible craftspeople and family enterprises, Wilstone was able to sustain regular deliveries of timeless and inspiring pieces from India. Today, Wilstone remains a connection between the bustling streets of Rajasthan and the rolling hills of Shropshire.
